Providing of a goods and services or only services, is termed as Service management or IT Service management. Most widely being used as a part of the IT industry, service management could also be used in many other industries.
Service management is generally used along with operations support systems. Systems using service management generally include of inventory management, performance diagnostics, activation, order management plus some more types of support systems.
Service management consists of various components. This generally includes skilled labor along with automated systems and generally provides service development as well. Considering a situation we can say that it is of utmost importance to be able to simplify first and then streamline the services managed into a simplified workflow. But just managing the workflow is not enough and there has to be the ability to be able to control in an automated fashion the entire working from a centralized centre.
TQM (Total Quality Management), Business Process Management, Six Sigma are some of the types of different management systems along which Service Management is generally used. This can be used in accordance with large companies or even small scale ones.
There are many service and resource providers today, who help large as well as small businesses instill the principles of service management. iSYS, Novell Zenworks, Altrius Management Suite, IBM Service Management are a few vendors prviding service management.
