Setting up LinkSys Router

Physical Setup of a LinkSys Router
When it comes to the models of LinkSys router, they usually vary from each other but their design, in general, resembles from one router to another. This is why the setup process is almost identical across all the models.

  1. Create a connection between the antennas and the router in case your LinkSys router also supports wireless.
  2. Now plug the Ethernet cable properly from your Internet provider to the port where the “Internet” is labeled.
  3. Similarly, plug another cable to one among the ports available.
  4. Lastly, plug the other end of the same Ethernet cable into your computer’s Ethernet port.

LinkSys Router Configuration
Nowadays, LinkSys routers arrive along with a Setup Wizard that helps one to complete the entire process of LinkSys Router configuration successfully and at ease. However, we don’t suggest you to rely on LinkSys Setup Wizard because there are 2 major reasons behind and they are:

  1. Such Setup Wizard is not considerably easier than it is seems to be and
  2. If you choose to rely on Setup Wizard, you’ll end up learning 2 interfaces of your router instead of one.

In our opinion, it’d be a wiser decision for you to simply start your web browser and jump directly into the LinkSys Router configuration.

Once you open your web browser, visit the URL followed by http://192.168.1.1/. This link will drive you to a popup box that requests you to mention a username with a password.

The default username is either “admin” or blank and the password is “admin”. After once you pass through log in page, you’ll be able to have access to a plethora of configuration choices for your router.

Keep in mind that don’t be anxious and confused after you come across the enormous variety and number of alternatives, your LinkSys router always arrives with default settings which helps it to perform right out of box in majority of environments.

After once you complete this step too, you’ll require filling up your personal preference in the next step, which is something that anyone could complete at ease.

If it’s all about a wireless router, I personally suggest you to consider setting a SSID for the recognition of your router and configure WEP as well for encrypting your wireless traffic.
